DESIGN SPRINT
Moderating is essential for social networking. Moderating facilitates cooperation and prevents abuse. Social networking can only descend into antisocial networking without moderating. Moderating processes in decentralized social networking need be customizable for the communities that will use them, and adaptable as communities change.
Create a moderating system that combines the technical and social code necessary for decentralized social communities to thrive.
A moderating system for decentralized social networks should:
Design sprints often consist of an intense five-day week. For this project, we’ adapted the format to fit in 5 weeks, because the team and community are currently distributed all over the world and in different time zones. We had to allow participation in the live sessions and also in async mode.
The team was formed by AKASHA members, external participants, and experts they all work together, beginning with an initial challenge and ending with a prototype that can be tested on users. The aim was to introduce a structured, transparent and open creative process to work as a team with the community.
The creative process needed to align the team on the problem, promote ideation, and definition of a solution that then got voted on and tested by the community. This process had to be iterative, transparent, and open to include the community in a decentralized design process.
In week 1, we worked on a well-defined problem statement that will serve as a guideline for the rest of the Design Sprint.
In week 2, we created a large volume of ideas sketched aligned with some for key principles.
In week 3, we selected the best ideas and created a unique and co-created storyline for the solution.
In week 4, we built a prototype that captured the concepts defined in the previous design sprint sessions.
In week 5, we tested with the community. The interviews and user reactions were filmed, with a feedback grid, recommendations, and next steps.
The outcome of the Design Sprint consisted in three Epics or Use Cases that would get integrated in the product development cycle.
IDEA 1. Onboarding to moderating Ethereans that have completed this education module can become part of the moderating team.
As Etherean in Ethereum World, I want to be able to actively participate in the moderating process so I can take care of the community. As an Etherean with a genuine interest in moderating I wish to discover EW moderating systems so I can partake in the moderation activities.
IDEA 2. Improved feedback loops for Ethereans and Moderators to discuss controversial content.
As Etherean in Ethereum World, I want to be able to actively participate in the moderating process so I can take care of the community. As an Etherean with a genuine interest in moderating I wish to discover EW moderating systems so I can partake in the moderation activities.
Evolving moderating with an interactive forum where all Ethereans can acknowledge, discuss, create and vote on the World’s Principles and evolve the Code of Conduct.
As Etherean I want to acknowledge and respect the code of conduct so I’m aware of the behaviors that are not accepted in the community. As Etherean I want to acknowledge and help evolve the Values so I can nurture the community. As Etherean I want to be able to add new proposals to the code of conduct and values so I can be heard and help the community.
